Exercise: Editorial Illustration

Image
Exercise: Editorial Illustration I started by creating an action plan through Trello. This exercise tasked me firstly to buy a newspaper and analyse the illustrations, I chose to go down a different route, I found a website that follows the work of Maria Fabrizio. https://mymodernmet.com/editorial-illustration-wordless-news/ She produces Editorial Illustrations based on real-world headlines. I thought this would be more focussed and allow some deeper analyses. I saved a few of her illustrations and read briefly through the article that went with it. Her illustrations are super creative and I feel have inspired me a lot more than reading my local newspaper. Educational Strip

This exercise wanted me to create the illustrations for a leaflet, the leaflet was called What is happening to my body it's all gone mad. I researched into the issue. I thought that with an issue like this that research would be the most important aspect because of how serious it would be to provide information. I used a few websites to gather information. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/stress-anxiety-depression/coping-with-your-teenager/ https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/16-ways-relieve-stress-anxiety#section5 After the research I thought that it I wanted to go down a different path as I usually do with these exercises. I wanted to focus on the mental health aspect of puberty and how tough it can be when you have changes in hormones. I thought with today's current climate and how everyone is more open about mental health having a resource like this in schools will be so beneficial. I feel like I could go down lots of different paths however I focused on mental health is...

Exercise Working for Children

Image
Exercise: Working for children This exercise wants me to first gather examples of imagery for children within different age categories. Remembering the research structure I used for my previous exercises I began first empathising with the age group. Pre-Reader : I gathered this would be 0-2 years old, within this age group everything needs to be very visual and a heavy focus on imagery. They also need to be easy to understand books in terms of the themes and concepts as they are being read too. Best books for 2-3 year olds   I used this website to do a bit of research into the types of books. These were the images I collected, I used the website but then also googled books designed for the age group, this allowed me to analyse the images and pull out the factors that make the book fit for that age group. I can then look further into the decision making that lead up to the illustration. First of a lot of the illustrations bend reality, they are not designed...

Exercise: Biscuit Packaging

Image
Exercise: Packaging This exercise asked me to produce a series of illustrations for packaging to be used for a new range of organic biscuits. The first thing I did was use Trello to map out an action plan. Trello really helps me to keep organised and stay on top of everything, it is even more helpful to break things down into small steps. I can then drag the smaller steps into a completed list. The first thing I did was do some initial research on current biscuit packaging, I have to say I was left rather uninspired. Lots of the big name brands use large images of their product or just recognisable branding for example Jaffa Cakes. Now whilst this is incredibly well developed marketing I looked to other sources for inspiration.  I went onto behance and I found this awesome sushi packaging. I love the bright colours and how everything is just so fresh and vibrant. The biggest takeaway for me is how well they have used the space, I love how the whole packa...
