Exercise: Viewpoint

Image
This exercise asked me to pick a theme and use a digital camera to take photos of objects surrounding that theme. I chose The morning after. I selected a beer keg, two packs of ibuprofen, a mug of tea and a bottle of whisky. I then used my phone to take the photos of the objects, I altered the perspective and positioning of the objects to get more creative shots. I then used my Ipad to create some sketches of these images. I played around with different formats, I had some images that were long and thin and then drew others in rectangles. This was my favourite and my final piece as it represents the idea better. I had my Whisky and Beer Keg far away, which reflects how I don't want to think about them and keep them as far away from me as possible.

Exercise: Client Visuals

Image
Exercise: Client Visuals For this exercise I was asked to pick two illustrations and reverse engineer them to discover what the client visual would've looked like. I tried to take the illustrations I chose and reproduce them with as fewer lines as possible so it would achieve as much of the same effect so a client can imagine more what the final piece will look like. The two illustrations I chose were by Maurice Sendak and Oliver Jeffers respectively. I love both of these gentleman's styles.  Here were both my client visuals, I for this to work I thought the most important thing was capturing the emotions and facial expressions of the characters, because these were people and had faces and weren't just objects, one line that isn't in the right place can completely change the whole image.

Exercise: Making a mock up

Exercise: Making a mock up This exercise asked me to take a book from my shelf and mock up the front cover for it. The books on my book shelf are mostly graphic novels. I chose Infinity. This is a series of graphic novels by Marvel Comics which tells the story of Mad Titan Thanos. I had not completed an illustration for this project so I will be doing one especially for this exercise. I wanted to capture the meaning of the story, something I really enjoy when other comic artists do. Quite a lot of comic book covers, especially superhero comics want to fill the page with the characters in the book or just have their faces on it. I wanted to go in the opposite direction, I wanted to have my cover show the meaning behind the story in an illustration that was also visually appealing. I wanted to do my best at achieving that. Here are my two pages of sketching, I first started with a bullet point list of who Thanos was. This was a smaller scale brainstorm but achieved the same goal. T

Assignment 3: A Poster

Assignment 3: A Poster This assignment is wanting me to produce a poster for a music gig, I chose to create almost a festival. The title of the festival is, "Controlling the sheep" it will feature an array of experimental musicians all who are known for pushing boundaries and having a unique identity. The main front runner will be Kanye West. The main thing I wanted to explore was how Hip Hop and Rap music has always had a connection with Art, whether it is art that is on the covers of albums or the production of posters and promotional materials. Because both art and music are so expressive they can go hand in hand. The first place I explored was the UCA online library and searched for any books or articles on music festivals, it was a very niche subject but I found something.   Art at the Music Festival: Blueprints and the Chronotope. The article was very interesting and kind of went over my head, but I did take away this idea of music festivals losing the  carnivale
