Exercise: Tattoo
For this exercise I was tasked with designing a tattoo for a someone and a greetings card, the tattoo was a gift for his mum and he also wanted to have a greetings card to go along with it.
To begin with I browsed for some mum related tattoos just as a reference base. Once I had gathered those reference images, I used pro create to sketch out some ideas. I wanted to have something that was simple and geometric, I feel the trend of big coloured tattoos is gone now and I wanted something to reflect modern trends, especially with tattoos.

The style of this tattoo caught my eye because it was basic and minimalist, I like the minimal line art and the fact it is not coloured.
This reminded me of an old biker gang, I think big coloured tattoos like this are out of fashion, especially with banners.
I like the complexity of this tattoo, there is a lot of consideration into the overall style and message. It is also a creative way of combining two elements together.
I like the way this tattoo ties in the infinity symbol and how it could also represent a strand of DNA as well. This tattoo did spark an idea in my mind of combining the actual shape of the love heart with the infinity symbol to make something cohesive and use the shapes wisely.
This was my page of sketching. I used procreate and just a HB pencil brush. This was really help full as it meant I could zoom in to each one and create finer details. I split my sketching up into two sides, one side focused on the idea of having a love lock and the other focused on the idea of using the DNA/Infinity strand to create a love heart. I played around with that concept and then tried to create something that had one cohesive line that flowed uninterrupted around.
This was my final idea, I did enjoy this exercise to an extent, It was definitely not my favourite and there was not as much energy behind it as it did excite me or spark any passion, I did want to see though if I could create some sort of original concept and this could ultimately be used in a logo concept as well, I did not want to create anything with too much detail and stick to something modern and trendy.
